Today, in the face of the difficult situations and challenges facing the world, it's important to turn to the Virgin Mary "since she is our Mother and we are her children." "More than ever, the world, and in particular France who has been solemnly consecrated to Her - a consecration that cannot be abolished - needs Mary's protection," Pope Francis said at the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the national pilgrimage to Lourdes, held on August 11 - 16, 2023.

Francis prayed that "the Queen of Peace" would intercede with her Son, so that "the much-desired peace may be established wherever the noise of arms is heard. May she awaken in the hearts of all genuine sentiments of brotherly love, so that societies may grow harmoniously in respect for others, safeguarding their dignity and rights, and that no one may be left by the wayside."

He also turned his thoughts to families, entrusting to the Virgin Mary parents who "bear the daily weight of a heavy responsibility"; young people often worried about their future; and the elderly, "rich in experience and wisdom, but too often neglected and abandoned." In his message, the Pontiff wished comfort for the sick, the lonely, the marginalized, the exiled or refugees, and all those who suffer and experience difficult moments in their lives.
