In December 2017, I was very fortunate during the Christmas season to be allowed into a hospital delivery room by the doctor who was to deliver our granddaughter. That was 17 years ago. Grandmothers who read this and have had a similar experience will understand.
The obstetrician was monitoring the labor, when I noticed a deep look of concern come over his face. Being Catholic, I started to pray the Rosary. I knew that something was wrong. I was very worried, but I knew that this was not the time to express my anxiety.
I would like to take this opportunity to praise those doctors, whose work I was able to observe that day. All too often, we don't appreciate their care and diligence.
The doctor was putting all of his concentration into delivering a baby that for some reason was in danger. He finally succeeded!
I had not said a word during the whole birth, but I assailed Heaven with my prayers, especially the Mother of God, so she would come to the rescue.
But something surprising happened right after the birth. The doctor, whom I had never met, came to me and said, pointing to my Rosary, "This is what saved the baby!" My goodness! It was a perfect example of faith and trust in God! Without saying anything else, he left the delivery room. On my end, I thanked the Lord and Mary for one of the greatest gifts God gives us: children!
