The miraculous vision disappeared, Thierry Schoéré went back on his way, but fearing to be mocked, decided to keep quiet. When he arrived at the market, he bought a bag of wheat, but, strangely enough, neither he nor anyone else could lift it. The sack seemed to be made of lead and stuck to the ground.
The peasants who had gathered around were worried about the magical and mysterious force that was holding the sack to the ground. This inexplicable phenomenon tormented their minds and some began to accuse the unfortunate blacksmith of witchcraft. Then Thierry Schoéré understood the significance of this warning. He was chosen as a divine messenger, but had disobeyed the Holy Virgin by not fulfilling the mission she had entrusted to him.
Before the silent onlookers, Schoéré knelt down, asked Our Lady for forgiveness and finally told the attentive townspeople about the celestial apparition. He convincingly explained the symbolism of the piece of ice and the three ears of wheat.
Astonished, the people listened respectfully to the story. They were deeply moved and no one doubted the sincerity of the honest blacksmith of Orbey. The most incredulous were persuaded, expressed a sincere repentance and promised to make amends.
Relieved and happy, Schoéré returned to the mysterious bag. Now he picked it up easily and put it on his horse. Then, amidst the joyful crowd, Thierry Schoéré, the messenger of the Virgin, joyfully returned to his own village.
