The role of Mary in exorcisms is particularly comforting. Exorcists find that when the name of the Virgin is mentioned, the demons go into a great rage, out of their profound contempt and hatred for the Mother of God. Without ever daring to call her by her name, they say "that one", adding a series of insults to her, because they complain that she destroys many of their plans.
A frequent anti-Marian manifestation of the devil is to go into a mad rage when the Immaculate Heart of Mary is mentioned because, as he has often shouted, it reminds him of the fact that the world has been consecrated to this Immaculate Heart by this... [obscene expression addressed to John Paul II] and that this consecration has caused the failure of many of his plans, on a worldwide scale.
Concerning the Holy Rosary, when a rosary was once placed around the neck of a person being exorcized, the devil immediately began to shout, "It crushes me, this chain with the Cross at the bottom, it is heavy, it crushes me!" The exorcist exclaimed, "From now on, our sister will pray the rosary every day." The devil immediately replied, referring to the Rosary: "There are so few of you who recite it anyway, compared to the whole world! And good for me that it is so, because it hurts me, because you invoke Her [the Virgin] and you remind me of His life [the life of Jesus, which we meditate on in the mysteries of the Rosary]."
Another day, during an exorcism, the priest pulled a rosary from his pocket. The devil immediately cried out, 'Take off this chain, take off this chain!’
- What chain?
- The one with the Cross at the bottom. She's whipping us with that chain!"
This is metaphorical language, but it makes us understand, in a very concrete way, the power of the Rosary and how much the devil fears it.
