Two passages from the Gospel are particularly important to me in my relationship with the Mother of God.
The first is the story of the Annunciation (Lk 1:26-38) that ends with Mary's fiat. Her openness to the Word of God and her free decision to say "YES" is the beginning of our redemption. Thus, we have her as our Mother in Heaven. It is also a call for me to follow her in her fiat, even knowing that my listening and my "YES" to the Lord will be imperfect. The following prayer is on my lips daily, asking Our Lady to help me go to Jesus, her Son: "O Mary, teach me to say "YES" to the Lord, every moment of my life; O Mary teach me to say "thank you" to the Lord, every moment of my life."
The second passage is that of the Wedding Feast at Cana (Jn 2:1-12). When Mary points out to Jesus the lack of wine at the wedding, she asks Him to remedy the situation. But she understands the deep meaning of her Son's apparently negative reaction that His time has not yet come. So Mary asks the waiters to obey His orders, thus allowing the miracle of the transformation of water into wine. This story makes me understand Mary’s great union with Jesus, as she carries the mission of her Son in her Heart.
As her child, by submitting my imperfect requests to her in prayer, I can be certain that the Blessed Virgin will give them meaning and form so that God's response will contribute to my good.
By also praying the consecration to Mary every morning, I try to remain united to her.
