It was in the house of Nazareth where the Virgin received the visit of the Archangel Gabriel for the Annunciation, that the mystery of the Incarnation was accomplished, and where, after the return from Egypt, the Savior lived with Mary and Joseph.
In A Moment with Mary of January 9, 2020, we published a story from the French Catholic newspaper La Croix, suggesting that the important Marian shrine of Loreto, believed to be the authentic house of the Virgin Mary in Nazareth, was transported to Italy by sea. However, recent studies challenge that theory and actually agree with the long-standing tradition stating that it was carried in the air by angels!
It would seem that the narrative about the noble family De Angeli bringing it by ship is a fabrication. We quote an Italian article dated December 10, 2019: "This is a false story invented by the De Angeli family of Palermo, in order to make the world believe that that house descended from the princely family "Angeli" from Epirus (Greece), as we can read in the recent book by Frédéric Catani entitled “The Miracle of the Santa Casa of Loreto,” published in 2018. The book presents the conclusions of a study by Professor Andrea Nicolotti of the University of Turin proving that “the falsified nature of the Byzantine documents produced by the De Angelis family makes one strongly suspicious about the credibility of their sources…”
We are happy to pass on this information to our readers, who will be able to make their own more informed opinion. And we take this opportunity to remind our readers that Pope Francis inaugurated a special Jubilee year on December 8, 2019, by opening the Holy Door of the Basilica of Loreto. This Jubilee will end on December 10, 2020.
