Saint Aloysius Gonzaga (1568 - June 20, 1591) belonged to a noble Spanish family. For this reason he was expected to follow his father to court and to take part in all worldly meetings held there. But he always managed to find time to meditate or retire to a quiet room to confide his joys, sorrows and fears to the Savior and to His Blessed Mother.
The trust that the young Aloysius had in the Immaculate Queen was his safeguard against the vanity and impurity often present in the sumptuous palaces. Indeed, piety and modesty are never fashionable in royal courts. God inspired him to keep his virginity inviolably. This resolution was confirmed by the Blessed Virgin herself.
Thanks to her, the young man recognized his vocation at the age of 16, and in a very clear manner, since he heard a heavenly voice tell him to enter the Society of Jesus. Saint Aloysius Gonzaga wore the Jesuit habit for only six years, but in this short time he raised the virtues he had been practicing to their highest degree.
