January 10 – Our Lady of Tears (Italy, 1546)

Our Lady of Fatima will be present at WYD Panama

The original statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be present at World Youth Day (WYD) in Panama, from January 22- 27, 2019, according to Vatican News. It will be the first time since the year 2000 that this statue will leave Portugal.

Archbishop José Domingo Ulloa Mendieta, the Archbishop of Panama, announced it on August 27, 2018 in a video broadcast during a press conference.

This represents an exception, because in 2000 the shrine decided that the statue—which has already traveled to 64 countries—would not leave the shrine anymore. But the decision was made because of the importance of the event in connection with Saint John Paul II, who is at the origin of the WYD and who had a special devotion to Our Lady of Fatima.

Created according to the indications of Sister Lucia and crowned in 1947, the statue will be kept in the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes before being brought to the Parque del Perdon, in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament where the Sisters of Charity (Saint Mother Teresa’s order) will keep watch. On Saturday and Sunday, January 26 and 27, 2019, the statue will be present at the vigil and the closing mass with the youth.

Let us pray to Our Lady of Fatima for the January 2019 World Youth Day, that it will be an opportunity for conversions among the youth–and older people—of the world!
