We know Catholics pray the Rosary as a means of asking God for a special favor, such as helping a loved one recover from an illness—or perhaps as a way to thank God for special blessings such as the birth of a baby, a new job, or even a new business.
But right here on Staten Island, NY, there is a group of patriotic seniors and people with special needs at ArchCare—who are going above and beyond the call of duty in the "big heart department" by handcrafting special rosaries for troops in combat zones overseas.
In fact, they're already fulfilled their goal of 50 rosaries—with ease.
And what's truly unique about the endeavor is the original rosaries are tailored specifically with the troops' needs in mind.
For instance, they don't jiggle at all, inasmuch as hand-knots represent the "beads," and they're also created in camouflage colors for both Army "Camo" and Desert "Camo."
Lauren Della Salla, recreation coordinator for St Marks, and Lauren Abate, ACS coordinator, brainstormed the idea.
"This is the seniors' way of giving back to the troops, and they are very proud of their creations," says Joann Cazorla of Communications Associate Reputation Architects Inc.
