The last words that have sprung from the loving heart of Mary were spoken at the wedding of Cana. "As the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ And Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, what do you want from me? My time has not yet come.’
The loving solicitude of the maternal heart of Mary is still bursting forth today. Then, at Cana, she interceded for an earthly wine, one that would delight the guests and keep the spouses from embarrassment. Today, the Virgin Mary still intercedes with her Son on our behalf and asks for us the spiritual wine of the Gospel.
While the jars filled with water represent the Old Covenant, the wedding wine is the New Covenant, the new wine of the Gospel, to be poured into new bottles.
Mary, as a good mother, asks of her children to receive the Gospel, to open their hearts to the meaning of Scripture, in order to grant them ‘the intelligence of the mystery of Christ’.
Because God is absent from our world, because our times lack the wine of the Gospel and persecute the Church, and because the Church lacks saints, the Virgin Mary intercedes with Jesus, and, although his hour has not come yet, he will do miracles to answer the prayer of his Mother. Her desires are his, as their hearts beat in perfect harmony.
