Marthe Robin, a French Catholic mystic (1902-1981) and co-founder with Father Georges Finet of the Foyers de Charité, wrote this about St Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort's book The Secret of Mary: "The Blessed Virgin Mary said that this little book should really be the central book of all our Foyer de Charité homes, and even beyond, for the whole Church "(cf Father Finet, in a talk to the members of the Foyer on January 9, 1984).
Marthe also wrote to the Superior General of the Montfort missionaries, who had sent her the introduction to the Treaty of True Devotion to Mary translated into Breton: "Grignon de Montfort did not know what he wrote—he would have been too proud. He wrote under the dictation of the Holy Spirit."
Long before she received The Secret of Mary, Marthe was already living in deep communion with Mary, her Mother. The reading of The Secret of Mary was probably for her a luminous confirmation of what she had perceived by experience.
Thus, when Father Faure, parish priest of her village, Chateauneuf-de-Galaure, pointed out to her that it was easier to teach geography, history or spelling to little girls than to make them discover the Lord, the faith and the riches of his Light, Marthe responded spontaneously that he would not succeed alone. It was necessary to ask the intercession and the help of Our Lady so that the children would open their hearts to the merciful tenderness of the Lord.
