The fact that we have consecrated ourselves to Mary is truly a special and effective way of living our ecclesial and personal faith in Christ. By entrusting ourselves to the Virgin Mary’s maternal care and protection, we benefit from her intercession, joining our feeble efforts with her powerful prayers and her closeness to Jesus.
As you know, there are a large number of dioceses, eparchies, parishes, schools, streets, buildings, groups, movements, institutes of consecrated life and various institutions that bear the name of the Virgin Mary. The humble Virgin of Nazareth is undeniably an integral part of our Christian heritage and religious history. By consecrating our country to God again today, by consecrating ourselves and our families, we imitate the way in which Christ chose to be united to us and to our human nature.
Through this consecration of the diocese of Quebec to the Virgin Mary, today, Sunday, July 2, 2017, let us pray together... that our people will be better prepared to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ’s Gospel. Pray also that you may become missionary disciples, who are open and willing to share the treasure of our faith.
Cardinal Gerald Cyprien Lacroix, Archbishop of Quebec
Homily delivered on July 2, 2017 in the Cathedral Basilica of Notre-Dame of Quebec
