September 3 - Consecration of Germany to the Immaculate Heart of Mary (1954) - Saint Gregory the Great (d. 604)

A statue of Mary pulled to the top of a mountain

“La Cordée Pierre et Charles” (French for The Pierre & Charles Rope Team) was created to give youth an experience of mountain hiking in an atmosphere of joy, simplicity and friendship, following Christ our loving leader. The goal of their last outing, on September 1-3, was to pull a statue of the Virgin Mary to the summit of the Aiguille de La Grande Sassière, a 12,300 ft mountain on the French-Italian border of the Alps.

Organized as a pilgrimage, the project provided an opportunity to entrust France and Italy, and all young French and Italians, to the Virgin Mary.

Pierre and Charles were French twin brothers who had a deep desire for beauty and God, and who died tragically in a freak avalanche on the Mont Blanc, on December 24, 2014, at the age of 22. Both men were mountain enthusiasts, who loved to take friends to the peaks. After their death, someone came up with the idea of honoring their memory by continuing to take young people to the heights. The Pierre & Charles Rope Team was born.

At the top of each ascent, Mass is celebrated by the chaplain, Fr. Gaspard Craplet, who is also a mountain guide. The Pierre & Charles Rope Team has already made six ascent-pilgrimages and has now over 100 members!
