July 26, 2017, marked the beginning of 40 days of preparation for the September 3rd Act of Consecration of the Scottish Church and the Kingdom of Scotland to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. All of the country’s Catholic bishops—eight ordinary bishops and eight emeritus bishops—participated.
This 40-day preparation was the idea of Bishop John Keenan, head of the diocese of Paisley. The consecration, intended to mark the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima, took place in the Scottish National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Carfin, Motherwell Diocese.
To make this national consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary more effective and meaningful, the bishops called all Scottish residents and expatriates, and those of Scottish descent throughout the world, to participate in these preparatory prayers!
What an example for all Catholic nations to emulate!
