On February 23, 2017, Bafétimbi Gomis, Marseilles soccer club’s striker, shared with journalist Fabrice Lamperti the key to his success: his faith in God. For him, offering to the Lord his successes and failures, like his knee injury of February 12, is a way of living his faith:
"I went to the Good Mother (the name given to the Virgin Mary in Marseilles) when I signed up with the OM (Olympique de Marseilles Club) to pray. I strongly believe in God." Since his beginnings in the profession, Bafé Gomis has been collecting victories, owing to his talent, assiduous training, and - who knows? - a little help from above. "I've done stupid things, like everyone who has grown up in a rough neighborhood might do. I could have taken a wrong turn and become a delinquent. Some of my brothers did. It was really my faith that got me out of there."
Since then, Gomis has not missed an opportunity to express his faith: after games, on social networks, especially on Twitter where he recently posted a photo of the candle he lit above his locker: "I've always done that. I bought this candle at the church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde.”
