For 54 years, between 1664 and 1718, the Virgin Mary appeared to a shepherdess named Benedicta Rencurel near the locality of Le Laus in the French Alps. Mary said to her messenger: "I asked my Son to give me Le Laus and he granted it to me. I would like a church to be built there, where many sinners will be converted."
At the end of September 1664, an apparition took place at Pindreau, near Le Laus. The Virgin said: “Go to Le Laus. There you will find a chapel “where you will smell a sweet fragrance. You will see me there and very often speak to me.” This was the start of a mission. Benedicta hurried in search of the chapel. The Mother of God was waiting for her in a small chapel of the village of Le Laus, called "Good Encounter." She revealed her plan: "It is my desire that a new chapel be built here in honor of my beloved Son. It will become a place of conversion for numerous sinners.”
Through Benedicta’s intercession, the Virgin Mary grants many graces and physical healings at Le Laus, especially when the oil of the sanctuary lamp is used to anoint the sick. Since 1664, a great many testimonies of healings are recorded every year.
