To approach Mary and the reign of her love in us is to open ourselves to inner purification, so that we can receive the graces of her Son without hindrance of any kind.
The word “purification” in terms of worship and liturgy means the cleansing of a person or object to make it worthy of God. Consequently, the first act of purification in our lives is the water of baptism, which takes us from a state of separation from God to divine filiation. It's beautiful to think that one of Our Lady's tasks is to purify us so that we can maintain our original union with the Holy Trinity.
Sometimes it's her tears that cleanse us of the wounds of our sins; at other times, she pours into our souls the balm of her tenderness, when she sees us more discouraged; and in moments of joy, she purifies us with the blend of her perfumes, which give our souls a deep presence of God.
This task of purification requires a daily effort to cleanse our souls so that we can perceive God's reign. If we want the Blessed Virgin to truly reign in our hearts, so that she can make us good children of God, we can ask ourselves: what aspects of my life need to be purified? Am I trying to channel all my affections and thoughts through Mary's heart?
Purification is the first step in enjoying the freedom that the Virgin Mary wants to give us through her reign. In giving her to us as Mother, Jesus entrusted her with a very specific task: to form in us a new heart, capable of having the same affections as those of her Son.
In this way, Mary helps fulfill in each of us the prophetic words of Ezekiel: “I will give you a new heart, I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my spirit within you, and make you walk in my statutes, and keep my precepts, and be faithful to them” (Ezek 36:26-27).
Isn't it the main task of a good mother to gradually cultivate her children's sensitivity, so that they can enjoy this world for the glory of God?
