Josefa Menendez (1890-1923) is undoubtedly one of the great mystics of our time. She once was well known in France (before the 1960s) but needs to be rediscovered today. Originally from Spain, she entered the convent of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Poitiers, France, at the age of thirty. It was there that Jesus and the Virgin Mary regularly appeared to her and spoke with her, from February 5, 1920, until her death on December 29, 1923. During the last months of Sister Josefa's life, Jesus revealed and dictated to her The Way of Divine Love, which contains messages from him and the Blessed Virgin Mary.

As with many other great mystics, Jesus permitted Josefa to be attacked by the devil, and asked her to accept it. At times, however, Satan's attacks were so violent that Josefa complained to the Lord and asked to be spared this ordeal, particularly at the beginning of March 1921. She later regretted having complained and asked Jesus to forgive her.
On March 9, 1921, the Blessed Virgin herself came to visit Josefa and delivered this message that Sr Josefa recorded:

"In the middle of adoration, the Blessed Virgin came, so good and compassionate, her arms open like a mother. I asked her forgiveness and told her my desire to know if I could still console Jesus and win souls for Him." This was indeed her first concern, "for - she added - knowing His Heart, I cannot doubt His forgiveness".

Yes, my daughter, you are forgiven," her divine Mother replied. “The infernal rage is preparing many more traps for you.... But take courage! You will not be overcome.” She gave me her blessing and disappeared."
