Mary confided to Saint Brigid of Sweden: “My daughter, you must have five interior virtues and five exterior ones. The external ones: a pure mouth, free from gossip; your ears closed to vain words; your eyes chaste and prudish; your hands devoted to good works, and your feet far from human conversation.
Inwardly, you must have five other virtues: love God with fervor; desire Him with wisdom; give temporal goods with just, right, and reasonable intention; flee the world with humility, and wait firmly and patiently for my promises.”
