On September 14, 1982, Princess Grace of Monaco lost her life in a car accident. The whole world was shocked and saddened by the tragic death of this great lady, with a noble heart and soul matching her royal standing.
In 1956, when the "Princess of Hollywood" married Prince Rainier of Monaco, she interrupted her brilliant film career to devote herself to her husband, and later to her children. After her marriage, in fact, Grace refused to return to her acting career. She did, however, make one exception, in favor of the Rosary, shortly before her death.
A devout Catholic, the Princess was unable to resist a pressing invitation from Father Peyton, the apostle of the Family Rosary, whom she knew well and who wanted to produce a new film at St. Peter's in Rome, to revive the recitation of the Rosary: "Your Highness, a poor Irish priest is asking Grace to do this favor for the Queen of the Rosary."
Grace couldn't say no to her old friend, and after an absence of more than 25 years, she returned to the camera. Mario Tursi, the only Italian in the troupe, was touched: "It was truly an exceptional event. I saw the Princess recite the mysteries of the Rosary with tremendous enthusiasm and fervor. I remember her inspired gaze, the perfect intonation of her voice, the impeccable style with which she recited the Gospel verses. Grace brought her faith to the filming, which was done at St. Peter's Basilica. Could we not see this as her spiritual testament?"
