Little Marguerite, from Paris, was dying of pulmonary tuberculosis.
-She will get better”, Don Bosco promised her mother in tears. "Every day, recite an Our Father, a Hail Mary and a Glory Be, and then a Salve Regina, and Our Lady Help of Christians will grant your wish. Pray like this until August 15."
-That’s two and a half months, Father!” the mother lamented, "when I think that you could simply take my daughter by the hand and she would be cured..."
Don Bosco then became stern: "Do what I tell you!" he ordered.
The illness continued its course: the spitting of blood increased, the fever left no respite; the child was completely emaciated. How hard it is to have faith in such conditions! But the mother held fast: she prayed, and hoped.
On August 15, she was getting dressed to go to mass, when she heard Marguerite cry to her: "Mom! Mom! I am cured!"
And indeed, the girl looked radiant, with rosy cheeks and vibrant eyes! She got dressed immediately and went to Mass with her mother. She was so completely recovered that her story ended like a fairy tale: "She got married, had many children and lived happily ever after".
