On May 22, 2016, Bishop Hector Sabatino Cardelli approved the apparitions of Our Lady of the Rosary in San Nicolas de los Arroyos, Argentina (240 km northwest of Buenos Aires), the see of his diocese. These apparitions took place from 1983 to 1990.
Gladys Quiroga de Motta, married to a mechanic and the mother of two, received the visit of the Virgin Mary for the first time on September 25, 1983. Mary was carrying the Child Jesus, and she resembled the statue venerated in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, which had been put aside in the bell tower in a place that the Virgin indicated to Gladys. During the first apparitions, Our Lady did not speak, but she would smile or take on a sad expression.
On the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, October 7, Our Lady showed Gladys the shrine that she wanted to be built in a place called El Campito, on the banks of the Parana River.
In the sixth apparition, on October 13, 1983, Our Lady told her: "You have been faithful. Don't be afraid, come to me, and with me, holding my hand, you will go a long way." A few weeks later, Gladys and some of her neighbors saw the large rosary that hung over her bed suddenly light up. They decided to pray the rosary together every day.
From October 19 on, Gladys received messages from the Virgin Mary and indications of Bible passages to meditate on. At the invitation of the Virgin, she began to fast without ever being bothered by it. She was also able to touch Mary and feel the warmth of her body. She said that during the apparitions, she smelled an intense perfume of roses.
From November 15, 1983, to February 11, 1990, Gladys received daily apparitions and messages, and then these stopped. She received and transcribed many messages which were published in 1987. The messages concern peace, reconciliation, penance, prayer and God's desire to renew his covenant with his people.
Beginning on November 15, 1983, Gladys also received 78 apparitions of Jesus.
