Today is Thursday, the day of the luminous mysteries. Let us meditate on the first luminous mystery, the baptism of Christ, whose fruit is the vocation to holiness and fidelity to our baptismal promises (Scripture Reading: Mt 3:11-13)
This event is very moving: Jesus, the Son of God, becomes the smallest, the most humble, the least among all. He was poor so that we might be rich in the divine life. If we want Jesus to work the wonders of his grace in us, we must have a heart as poor and humble as possible. We receive a candle at our baptism so that its flame may illuminate our whole life and that of our brothers.
Lord, you showed us the divine power that emanated from the waters of baptism: help us to perceive how much, through our baptism which made us children of God, we can live the life of the Holy Trinity and bear the fruits that this life breathes into us!
