October 1 - Saint Therese of Lisieux

October, month of the Rosary

In 1883, Pope Leo XIII solemnly decreed that the month of October of that year would be entirely dedicated to "the holy Queen of the Rosary". Since then, the month of October has been called the month of the Rosary. In this month of October 2022, A Moment with Mary will bring you meditations and texts exclusively about the Rosary.

The prayer of the Rosary is often described as "very simple" because of its repetitive aspect. This very quality is sometimes perceived as off-putting, yet, many who penetrate the sweet mystery of the Rosary receive frequent consolations and graces of faith, hope and charity.

According to a cardinal, the problem is that beginners tend to go too fast, thinking that they have to say the five decades every day, even though their hearts and minds are not prepared for it. A good method is to begin with one Hail Mary, in a spirit of trust in the Virgin Mary, and with great fidelity. The fruit of this fidelity will be the acquired taste to pray 3 Hail Marys each day, then 1 decade, then 2... and finally the complete rosary. Some make this journey in a few weeks, others in a few months. It doesn't matter!

That is why A Moment with Mary always ends with a Hail Mary, as an invitation to begin this journey to pray the rosary.

All the readers of A Moment with Mary who would like to begin this process in October can also go to the website https://rosaryfortheworld.org/ created by Mary of Nazareth to help people set individual prayer goals.

Whether you are a beginner or a regular practitioner of the rosary, let us pray for one another so that, during this month of October in particular, the Virgin Mary will help her beloved children turn even more towards her and, with her help, towards her Son.

To Jesus through Mary!
