March 24 – Our Lady of the Thorn (Châlons-sur-Marne, France, 1400)

“I have been happy to pray the Rosary for a long time”

I was moved by today's testimony in A Moment with Mary, where a lady explains how she came to pray the Rosary because of the September 11 attacks in the United States. I too would like to share how I have been led to pray the Rosary, even though my story isn't as dramatic.

When my baby was born, I had health problems, which led me to return to prayer by calling on the Virgin Mary for help. But once the danger had passed and my prayers were heard, I stopped praying...

One day on television, they were talking about a disaster in India. A local told a journalist: "We need to pray very much." This unexpected testimony of faith, on the mainstream, secular news gave me a great motivation to pray in union with other Christians worldwide in distressing situations. But after a few months I stopped praying again.

Then one day I read the testimony of a person who had returned from Medjugorje (Bosnia-Herzegovina) and was praying 10 Hail Marys every day for the intentions of the Virgin Mary. Again, I found this very good and wise, and this time I tried to stick to prayer. Then a friend of mine suggested that I come to a meeting of the Rosary teams. She told me that the members committed to praying a dozen Hail Marys every day at home. I realized that I had already been doing this for almost a year and that I owed it to the Virgin Mary in gratitude for my healing! And I have been happy to keep up this prayer of the Rosary for 7 years now.
