Mariah Carey says that Mary, not she, is the true ‘Queen of Christmas’

In recent years pop sensation Mariah Carey has become known as the “Queen of Christmas” thanks to her iconic Christmas song “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

However, in a new interview, Mariah Carey herself admits that she never actually wanted this title for herself as she believes the true “Queen Of Christmas” is one of the most important figures in the Christian faith.

During an interview with “The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show” on BBC Radio 2, Mariah Carey set the record straight by saying that the real Queen of Christmas is the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus Christ.

“Can I just say that I did not create the title or the moniker ‘Queen of Christmas,’” Carey explained. “I did not do that. That was other people, and I just want to humbly say that I don’t consider myself that.”

“I’m someone that loves Christmas, that happened to be blessed to write ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and a lot of other Christmas songs,” Carey added, before professing her own Christian faith.

“Let’s face it, everybody’s faith is what it is,” she continued. “But to me, Mary is the Queen of Christmas.”

The Christian Post reported that Carey has long been open about her Christian faith, saying that it saved her from a mental breakdown back in 2002, when she lost her record deal with Virgin Records.

“I do believe that I have been born again in a lot of ways,” Carey once said. “I think what I’ve changed are my priorities and my relationships with God.”

Carey’s ex-husband Nick Cannon made headlines back in 2016 when he revealed that Carey is so “deep into the Bible” that she made him wait until they were married before they had sex.

“A lot of people don’t know, she’s really a good girl and conservative when it comes to that and deep into the Bible,” Cannon said at the time. “People just wouldn’t think about that.”

While accepting the Billboard Icon Award two years ago, Carey was quick to give all the credit to God.

“Icon? I really don’t think of myself in that way,” Carey said. “I started making music out of a necessity to survive and to express myself. I just wanted to create something so I could feel worthy of existing and if I’ve learned anything at all in this life, it’s that truly all things are possible with God.”
