February 16 – Our Lady of the Pact of Mercy (Abyssinia*)

I used to think of the Rosary as a boring repetition of prayers

As a "good practicing Catholic girl", I had heard about Medjugorje (Bosnia-Herzegovina) and had seen many graces obtained through Our Lady. I had heard about the numerous conversions and the extraordinary healings, but I didn't particularly feel attracted to a radical conversion.

The apparitions and all the stories of mysterious happenings only increased my sense of unease around alleged miracles. However, it was curiosity and the desire to know the Mother of the Church better that pushed me to go to Medjugorje. I thought, why not give it a try and open myself to God's action?

This pilgrimage turned out to be an important step forward in my life of faith. I still realize how blessed I am every day.

The strongest moments for me were the evenings of Adoration and the discovery of the Rosary. I was impressed by the fervor of the faithful and the pilgrims who came from far away places, and by the sweetness and power of the Rosary. I, who used to think of the Rosary as a rather boring repetition of prayers, was pleasantly surprised by its effects.

There were two key moments in my pilgrimage: first, the testimony of a sister whose faith was contagious and shone like an unexpected light on my own spiritual journey, up until then strewn with shadows. The second highlight was the Way of the Cross, so rich in lessons that I saw the important moments of my life flash by at every step.

This is how the mini tidal wave of Mary swept me away in Medjugorje, and continues to do so! The graces are still unfolding, especially through praying the Rosary, and through events lived in truth: an unexpected reconciliation with a friend who converted, a meeting with believers touched by Our Lady, and many more...".
