An exorcist once realized, to his great surprise, that God was humiliating the devil by forcing him to praise Mary. Indeed, while this priest was invoking the Virgin, the devil said, "She is the only one who is everywhere, she 'kills' me, she has always 'killed' me, she tramples on me; her cursed veil strangles me every time; none of us can resist." At these words, the exorcist exclaimed, "Thank you Mary, thank you Immaculate Heart!" The devil immediately replied, "Leave that Heart alone: we thrust a sword into it and it did not die; we crucified her Son and she did not die; she took other sons!"
In another exorcism, while the priest was praising the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the devil said, "Her Heart is our pain; the more we pierced her Heart, the more it was alive; the more we crushed it, the more She crushed us; the more it suffered, the more we suffered. We wanted to 'rejoice' and, instead, She was killing us with Her tears: Her tears are a fire that 'kills' us."
Another day, while this same exorcist was invoking the intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the devil spoke of the thorns that are embedded in it [they represent the sins of humanity] and of those who make reparation for offenses against that Heart: "Men have helped me to thrust a thousand billion thorns into it. You have helped me to thrust all these thorns into it, you have helped me; but more thorns, more strength; more blood, more power; more suffering, more glory; your sins have been transformed into glory, because so many souls have dedicated themselves to atone for them; and each soul pulls out a thorn, and each thorn that is removed drives a post of fire into our brain. They are hit, beaten, burned, scratched, pierced, and they remain absorbed in prayer. They are insulted, they are slandered, and they remain absorbed in prayer. This torture will never end, this torture will never end! It is too much, it is too much! How many unaware people dedicate themselves and wait for nothing else than to die for this one... and her Son!"
