On June 5-6, 2021, I went on my first pilgrimage: the Lord decided that it would be at Notre-Dame de Liesse (the word means jubilation). We traveled by bus from Paris to Laon (Aisne department of France). The journey by bus helped us to know each other and, for those who wanted to, to share our conversion story for the group. The atmosphere in the bus was very joyful.
I have known Christ for 10 months, and I am currently preparing for baptism. I was able to pray and feel in communion with my new Christian family, of which I am very proud. On this pilgrimage, we walked for 15 km on roads and through woods, while joyfully praying the rosary!
When we finally arrived at the basilica, I was overcome with joy, despite the fatigue. Really, we were exultant! The priest prayed, and we sang some hymns in this Gothic gem of a church with a miraculous history – the story of beautiful princess Ismeria (1) from Egypt! I also learned that many French kings had visited Notre-Dame de Liesse!
During these 2 days, I enjoyed praying with my brothers and sisters in Christ. We fervently prayed, in the Heart of Jesus. During the time of Adoration on Sunday morning, some prayed to the Lord in a loud voice, others in the quiet of their hearts. That was the most moving moment for me… I was overwhelmed, and cried tears of joy, sadness and love. I loved this deep time of contemplation. At the end of the day, we returned to Paris by bus, happy, tired, but filled with the love of Christ!
For my first pilgrimage as a Catholic Christian, I was delighted. Everything I experienced was in the joy and love of Christ.
