The Immaculate is, from the moment of her conception, what we all hope to become in the end by grace. From all eternity, God whispers in her heart the verse of the poet: "I kneaded mud, and I turned it into gold." This is His loving plan for our humanity.
In the morning of the world, it was the Father, the divine craftsman, who whispered: "I kneaded mud and turned it into gold," shaping Adam in secret.
At the midday of the world, it was Christ, the sun of justice, who whispered: "I kneaded mud and turned it into gold," when He took our human condition and died on the Cross for the salvation of the world.
In the evening of the world, it is the Holy Spirit, the divine breath, who whispered: "I kneaded mud and turn it into gold," when His gaze falls upon each one of us on the day of our baptism, and upon our whole life when it shines with the fire of charity.
At the heart of this great mystery, of this divine alchemy that the Creator performs at every moment, Mary’s Immaculate Conception plays a special role. Mary’s Immaculate Conception is a grace for herself, but this grace is entirely subordinated to her Son, who alone is immaculate by nature. Mary’s Immaculate Conception is a grace for the Church, who sees its mirrored image in Mary, the spouse of the Holy Spirit, who is without blemish. Mary’s Immaculate Conception is a grace for all the baptized, who understand through it that Divine Love has no bounds.
