In the southeastern French region of Hautes-Alpes (diocese of Embrun), Le Laus is a unique Marian shrine in France and in Europe because of the duration and diversity of the apparitions, which stretched from 1664 to 1718!
Starting in 1664, the venerable Benoîte Rencurel received apparitions of the Virgin Mary, Christ, angels and various saints at different places in the region: Saint-Étienne d'Avançon, the Fours Valley, Pindreau, Le Laus, Embrun, Gap, La Saulce and Marseille.
These apparitions lasted 54 years, until Benoîte’s death in 1718.
"So many people have said that Laus was the refuge of sinners, where God inspires them to make good confessions, lifts the shame of those who are too afraid to make them, and are assisted by the advice of Benoîte who reveals to them what they are holding inside, gives them courage to make a good examination, and where good confessors send them away very happy!" (Manuscript records of Laus, Pierre Gaillard).
