May 27 – Madonna del Popolo (Italy, 1645). Saint Augustine of Canterbury (d. 604 or 605)

The scapular preserved a house from the flames

In May 1957, a raging fire engulfed an entire street in Westboden, a district of Düsseldorf in Germany. The devout residents of one of the houses quickly tied a scapular to their front door before fleeing to safety.

Flames and sparks rained down on that house for five hours. When the fire was finally under control, twenty-two houses were reduced to ashes. Only the one that had the scapular tied to its door was spared and remained perfectly intact.

Hundreds of people witnessed this miracle—the only house left standing in the middle of the rubble—a testimony to the power of intercession of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
