In March 1848, during the February Revolution, Sister Catherine Labouré worked hard to continue operating the small hospice for the aged and the infirm when most of the sisters had been forced to flee.
She also braved the streets to distribute the Miraculous Medal of the Virgin where the fighting was taking place at the barricades. During the rebels’ attacks, she encouraged them to be brave. Miraculously, through the protection of Mary, her whole community returned unharmed.
When Sister Catherine learned that the insurgents had ransacked Our Lady of Victories Church, she declared: "They have touched Our Lady. They won't go any further." In fact, the uprising ended in the spring.
