On July 13, 1917, Our Lady said to the three young visionaries of Fatima (Portugal):
"You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wants to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart.
If you do what I am going to tell you, many souls will be saved and you will have peace. The war will end, but if people do not cease to offend God, under the reign of Pius XI an even worse one will begin. When you see a night illuminated by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign that God gives you that He will punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine and persecutions against the Church and the Holy Father. To prevent this, I came to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart and the Communion of Reparation on the first Saturdays of the month.
If my requests are heard, Russia will be converted and there will be peace. If not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions against the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, and many nations will be annihilated.
In the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, she will be converted, and the world will be given a certain time of peace… When you recite the Rosary, say after every decade: ‘O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy’."
