At the outbreak of WWI in 1915, a French priest was on his way to celebrate Holy Mass at a Marian shrine in eastern France, when he realized that he had forgotten to wear his Scapular. Although he was already far from his home, he immediately turned back to get ‘Mary’s habit,’ not wanting to say Mass without it.
While he was offering the Holy Sacrifice, a young man walked towards the altar, held up a gun and shot the priest at point-blank range. But to everyone's surprise, the priest continued to say the prayers as if nothing had happened. At first they thought that the bullet had providentially missed him, but it turned out otherwise: the bullet was stuck to the Scapular of Mount Carmel. This small piece of cloth had served as his armor.
Several soldiers, at various times, have benefited from the same miraculous protection: the enemy bullet that was to kill them "crashed" on their Scapular.
