February 6 – Mater Pietatis (Italy) – Death of French mystic Marthe Robin (d. 1981)

Marthe Robin’s motto was: "All to Jesus through Mary"

Marthe Robin (March 13, 1902 - February 6, 1981) was a French Catholic mystic, who lived in Châteauneuf-de-Galaure (Drôme, France). Her life was marked by illness and the progressive paralysis of her whole body. She never left her room in her parents' farm where she had grown up. There, she founded, with Father Georges Finet, the Foyers de Charité, which have since spread to all continents. Marthe, who for over 40 years relived the Passion of the Christ every week, has been proclaimed Venerable by the Church. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world have found conversion after visiting her in her sick room and during retreats preached throughout the year in the Foyers de Charité.

Marthe wrote on February 3, 1930: “My motto is: All to Jesus through Mary, mediatrix of all graces. My life is all in union with Our Lord through union with his Holy Mother.”

Father Finet, her spiritual father, was by her side during her last moments. He remembers: “It was a Friday. I had come to her room the day before at 5 p.m. For the past few weeks, Marthe had been in more pain than before. But no one thought she was going to die. She told me that [Lucifer] was making her life difficult, that she was thrown to the ground. In fact, entering her room, I found her lying on the floor, which had never happened. I begged the person who was in the next room to come and help me pick her up. Her arm was already cold. And I heard Marthe say to me: "He killed me."
