It’s a good thing that part of the month of March, dedicated to Saint Joseph, is in Lent, since during this time each one of us is supposed to do exactly what Saint Joseph did—strive to glorify the Lord by offering ourselves to Him for the salvation of the world, in silence and humility, as we heard on Ash Wednesday.
Our practice of prayer, mortification, works of mercy, and alms are real offerings that the Lord, through the mystery of the Mass, uses in union with His own sacrifice, for the salvation of the world.
Through grace, the love that Saint Joseph, guardian of the divine mystery, had for Mary as a husband and his sense of fatherhood, were renewed, transformed and transfigured, taking on a new dimension in the service of God, now oriented towards the salvation of the world. This is what we will also learn by imitating him and by asking for his intercession.
Devotion to Saint Joseph, without ever equaling it, is inseparable from that of the Blessed Virgin, and the place that he occupies in the mystery of the Incarnation is so eminent that the Church will never do justice to his true glory.
