July 26 – Saints Anne and Joachim, Mary’s parents

"Do not be afraid, I am Anne, Mary’s mother" (I)

In August 1623, at the end of a work day, a young Breton of St Anne d’Auray (Brittany, France) called Yves Nicolazic was at home thinking about his "good patroness" St Anne. His room was flooded with light and a hand appeared in the night holding a wax torch. On several other occasions, Yves was guided home over rough roads by a similar torch. One evening, he and his brother-in-law both saw a lady dressed in white holding a candle at a place called the Bocenno field. Another time, he saw a shower of meteors falling in that field. All these signs happened without troubling him. He was amazed at them but went on with his regular occupations. He just prayed more fervently.

On July 25, 1624, the vigil of the feast of St Anne, the same lady appeared again at night on the road. She spoke to him reassuringly and led him again to his house, holding a torch. Yves went to the barn to pray quietly, trying to understand the reason for these manifestations. Then he heard a loud sound like a multitude of people walking by. However, going outside, he didn’t see anyone!

Then the mysterious lady appeared again and said to him: "Yves Nicolazic, do not be afraid. I am Anne, Mary’s mother. Tell your priest that in the field of Bocenno, before the village even existed, there used to be a chapel dedicated to me. It was the first one in the whole region, and it has now been lying in ruins for 924 1/2 years. I want it to be rebuilt as soon as possible, and I would like you to take care of this task, because God wants me to be honored."
