If God deems appropriate to send us his Mother…

According to Mark Miravalle, Mariology professor at Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio, United States), Marian apparitions have an "extraordinarily positive spiritual dimension."

Miravalle told Aleteia that although there is no "strict obligation to believe in Marian revelations," it is also true that "if God deems appropriate to send the Mother of Jesus, at a certain time in human history, to stress the most demanding aspects of the Gospel, such as better prayer, fasting, penance, conversion and peace, then this heavenly intervention must be received with respect, gratitude and veneration."

"God is not arbitrary in his acts of providence," he added, "and if he decides that the human family is in dire need of a heavenly visit from the Mediatrix of all Graces, then we should welcome these visits with an open mind and heart, especially when the Church has discerned that the reported apparition is of supernatural origin."
