“She is My Mother,” released in bookshops since October 2018, is the fruit of a conversation between Pope Francis and Alexandre Awi Mello, Secretary of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life. “This book,” affirmed the Pope, “has been written from my heart. I am happy that my testimony will serve to praise our Mother.”
The book talks about the encounters between Jorge Mario and Mary, a tender Mother, Help of Christians, who welcomes us, intercedes for us: during his conversation with the Pope, Awi Mello – writes the theologian, Carlos Maria Galli in the preface – discovered that “for Francis the most important thing is the Marian faith of the ‘holy people true to God,’ which teaches us to love Mary beyond theological reflection. As a son and member, like anyone else, of the People of God, Bergoglio – Francis – participates in the sensus fidei fidelium and identifies with the profound Marian piety of the Christian people. During the conversation, Father Awi discovered the vital roots of the Pope’s filial affection for the Madonna, which developed within his family and his Salesian background.”
