June 1 – Crowning of the miraculous image of Kevelaer (Germany, 1672) - Saint Justin Martyr

Mary will assist us

Having left the world to become a Franciscan monk, Rodolphe, count of Alsace (France, 13th century), had a great devotion to the Mother of God. At the end of his life, the memory of the life he had formerly led in the world and the thought of judgment coming to his mind, he began to doubt the salvation of his soul and to fear.

Then Mary, who does not forget her servants in their anxieties, presented herself to the dying man. Surrounded by a procession of saints, she addressed these tender words to him: "My dear, you have devoted yourself to me, so why fear death?”

At these words, the servant of Mary, relieved of so a great weight, drove away his terrors and died happily, in peace. So we too, with a great sentiment of peace, trust that at the hour of death, Mary will assist us.
