As Saint John Bosco was dying, some asked him: “What would you like to leave to these poor children that you have raised so carefully and are about to leave?”
The holy man answered without hesitation: “Devotion to Mary and frequent communion,” (feeling certain that those two means would be enough to ensure their final perseverance).
Father Berchmans, the blessed Belgian Jesuit (1599-1621), had the same insistence on the necessity of following the Virgin Mary: “If I love Mary, I am sure of my perseverance and I will obtain from God all that I want.” That is why this holy young man kept repeating: “I want to love Mary, I want to love Mary!”
