The Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, answered: "Listen to what I have to say, Satan. When you came out of the hands of the Creator, you had the understanding of the justice that is in God from eternity and without beginning. You also had the liberty to act at your pleasure, and although you have preferred to hate God instead of giving him your heart, you still know what justice demands.
But I say to you that it is my right more than it is yours to present this soul to God, who is her Judge. For during her stay on earth, she showed me great affection; she liked to remember that God deigned to choose me for his Mother and that he wanted to exalt me above all creatures. The thought of the privileges with which God was pleased to honor me inspired her such love that she often said to herself: 'I am so happy to see that the Most Holy Virgin Mary is dearer to God than all the creatures, that for nothing in the world would I trade the joy that I feel' ...
You see, Satan, in what dispositions this man died. What does it seem to you? Was it not right that I take this soul under my protection before God's tribunal, and could I let her fall into your hands to share your tortures?"
