July 17 – Feast of Mary’s humility

With Mary’s help, she carried her pregnancy to the end

In 2013, Chantal, a Parisian woman, already the mother of several children, was advised to abort her child after it was found that the baby would not live long after birth. She and her husband had deep trust in Mother Mary and in the power of the Rosary. Chantal’s faith helped her to carry her pregnancy to the end and give birth to a baby girl, whom they named Marie. The baby was born with Down syndrome, but she survived! Since Marie’s birth, Chantal has been involved in supporting pregnant women in crisis. This is her testimony:

"One day the leader of our group called me to entrust me with the support of a pregnant woman, Nora: her baby had Down syndrome and an abortion had been scheduled to terminate the pregnancy. Nora was terrified of having a disabled baby. Over the course of our meetings, we developed a strong friendship.

Nora is a Muslim—we were at once both close and different. I could only share my love for Marie with her and what my faith meant to me: whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. I told her that in loving her baby with Down syndrome, love would enter her home. I put her in touch with the Jérôme Lejeune Institute (Paris, France) and a maternity hospital that specializes in difficult pregnancies, run by the Little Sisters of the Catholic Maternities.

Her little Rayane was born very prematurely at 27 weeks of pregnancy. I never knew when she made the decision to keep her baby. The only thing Nora said to me was: "You loved your Marie so much, I could not love my child less."

Rayane lived only for a short month, leaving her mother desolate but having sown in her whole family an immense surge of love. After a period of severe depression and meeting with a priest, Nora began RCIA six months later. She chose 'Mary' as her baptismal name."
