It is June 8, 1873, Trinity Sunday, in the small village of Saint Bauzille de la Sylve, in southern France. Auguste Arnaud has been working in his vineyard since 5 am. Around 7:30, the Virgin Mary appears to him and asks him to build a cross. Auguste makes a wooden cross at the place she indicated.
On July 8th, in a second apparition, the Virgin Mary says to Auguste, in the local patois: “Do not work on Sundays.” She adds: “Blessed is he who will believe and unhappy the one who will not believe. The people should go to the church of Our Lady of Gignac in procession. I tell you, you and your family will be happy.”
Auguste continued working as a winegrower, becoming a fervent Christian and observing the Sunday rest on the Lord's day. He died at the age of 93.
After a long investigation, Bishop of Cabrières authorized the construction of a church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, in 1879.
