Lionel Messi, a fervent son of Our Lady of the Rosary

Famed footballer Lionel Messi made a promise on the Argentinean television channel TyC Sports that he sealed by a handshake: If he wins the 2018 World Cup in Russia with the Albiceleste team (Argentina’s soccer team), the 30-year old player who has yet to hold up the supreme trophy, will make a pilgrimage to a Marian shrine!

From his hometown of Rosario, he intends to walk to the city of San Nicolas de los Arroyos (province of Buenos Aires) to honor and thank the Virgin Mary who is prayed and celebrated under the title of Our Lady of Rosary. If he wins the World Cup with his Argentinian team, Lionel Messi will go on a 40-mile pilgrimage—walking for over 14 hours—for Our Lady.
