The diocesan process for the beatification of Sister Lucia, one of the three seers of Fatima (Portugal), ended on the anniversary of her "birth in heaven," on February 13, 2017, in the Carmel of Coimbra (Portugal) where she died 12 years ago, on February 13, 2005. Now it is in Rome, after an examination of the documents, that it will be decided whether or not to continue the beatification process. It is significant that the next phase landed in Rome in the year of the centenary of the apparitions of Fatima in 1917, and in the wake of the Jubilee of Mercy.
French bishop Albert-Marie de Monléon explains, in an interview given on January 15, 2017:
"One can indeed hear the message of Mary and the Angels in Fatima as a call to mercy. At the second apparition of the angel to the little shepherds, he said to them: ‘Pray at great deal! The Hearts of Jesus and Mary have merciful designs on you.’ Through these children, it is to each of us that this message is addressed. This prayer is essentially "for the conversion of the poor sinners" and for peace in the world. These are among the highest works of mercy which our time urgently needs."
