June 19 – Our Lady of Mercy (Italy, 1850) – Second visit of Saint John Paul II’s to Poland (1983)

Our Lady of the Street

Notre-Dame de la Rue (Our Lady of the Street) is a Canadian organization that coordinates a prayer chain on behalf of the homeless and the people who assist them. It involves more than 200 religious and secular groups present in 45 countries on five continents. Aleteia met its president, Romain Fortunier:

A statue of Notre-Dame de la Rue is currently traveling through France and will soon cross the Mediterranean for the Middle East. Do you wish to give this prayer chain an international dimension?

"Christ asks his disciples to go all over the world to proclaim the gospel. The statue of Our Lady of the Street sent across the world brings unity in Christ, beyond the social and cultural differences.

Volunteers organized the journey of the statue from Lebanon to the Promised Land, in Bethlehem, where it is scheduled to arrive on Christmas 2018. The statue of Our Lady of the Street will go to Syria to visit some clinics and refugee camps. This is an opportunity to show our support and compassion for our brothers of the Middle East so affected by the violence.”
