"If men do not repent"

In June 1988, Cardinal Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI, approved the apparitions of Akita as "reliable and trustworthy." Ten years later, he had an opportunity to evoke Akita with the Philippine Ambassador to the Vatican, who remembers: "The Cardinal personally confirmed to me that the two messages of Fatima and Akita are essentially the same."

Like that of Fatima, the message of Akita warns of a punishment for the whole world, if it does not convert. The third message of Our Lady of Akita delivered on October 13, 1973, occurred on the anniversary of the last vision and the miracle of Fatima. On that day Our Lady said:

"If men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as never seen before…The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by My Son. Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops, and priests ... The Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord. "
