While Togo has just faced a tense political situation and violent clashes in the streets of the capital, Lomé, young Catholics, members of the Legion of Mary, decided to proclaim the Gospel and raise awareness of Christian values in the neighborhoods of the city.
Thus, on the morning of Sunday, October 22, 2017, some 20 young Legionaries of Mary traveled the streets of Lomé to announce the Gospel and give support to the people they met by calling on everyone to be kind. In previous days, protest marches against Togo's political regime had given rise to violent scenes and harsh police repression.
"During our apostolate, we engage in conversation with people in the streets and in their homes on various religious or social issues," says Frederic Edoh, 30, head of his Marian group. The Legionaries of Mary met with Muslims, Catholics and Christians of other denominations. "Sometimes we face hesitation or rejection,” Frederick Edoh admits. “When that happens, we humbly leave, but always with kindness and love."
